He is neither a classic showman nor a particularly innovative artist. But Noel Gallagher can do two things like few others: write global hits and open his mouth. In the latter, only his younger brother Liam surpasses him.
Noel Gallagher played a decisive role in shaping the English music scene in the 1990s. He not only wrote global hits for his band Oasis, he made the type of rough, football-loving "lad" socially acceptable and, together with his brother Liam, regularly provided stories for the gossip press. The two brothers' arguments are legendary thanks to their intensity. There were also plenty of verbal outbursts, often against other artists and bands such as their competitors from Blur.
After the turn of the millennium, things calmed down for the Gallaghers, but their arguments worsened, until Noel finally took his hat off and founded his solo project Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Noel's comeback was initially more successful than that of his brother Liam with the band Beady Eye. Critics and fans alike were satisfied with Noel's output, which fully exploits his songwriting talent with Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds without directly following the Oasis sound.
The self-titled debut shot to the top of the charts in 2011. No wonder, as the album sounds relaxed, fresh and finally passionate again compared to Oasis' late work. The second album, "Chasing Yesterday," was released in 2015, and the third, entitled "Who Built The Moon?", in 2017. On September 9 of the same year, the band headlined the "We Are Manchester" benefit concert at the Manchester Arena after the terrorist attack there in May.
In 2019, Gallagher and band toured the USA with the Smashing Pumpkins. In 2021, the High Flying Birds' first greatest hits album, "Back The Way We Came: Vol. 1 (2011-2021), was released with two brand new songs on it. It became Noel Gallagher's twelfth No. 1 album in the UK. In 2023, "Council Skies" followed, the band's fourth studio album and a major co-headlining tour of the USA, together with the band Garbage.
